On September 11-12, 2008, the 5th PNP National Biennial Summit on Women Policing will be held in Panglao, Bohol, highlighting the important partnership between the Philippine National Police and Soroptimist. The Summit theme is: Empowered Women as Capable and Effective Managers. Current issues affecting women and girls, such as R.A. 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003) and R.A.9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004) are among the topics to be discussed.
As an identifying project of SIPR, the Adopt-A-PNP Women and ChildrenProtection Desk (WCPD) is a classic example of a strong Police-NGO partnership towards addressing the plight of women and children who are victims of abuse and violence. It is also in line with the United Nation’s program of cooperation in the field of human rights which is the foundation of justice and peace.
Since the project’s inception, Soroptimist clubs have assisted in strengthening WCPDs in various ways. Besides donation of office supplies and equipment, clubs have also provided legal support and counseling service to WCPDs. To ensure the success of our partnership, SIPR organized the Friends of PNP Foundation Inc. Every club is encouraged to adopt a Women and Children Protection Desk. By adopting a WCPD, clubs can help uphold not only the dignity of the victims of abuse and violence, but also help provide policewomen with the appropriate tools to carry out their jobs.
