Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization of business and professional women who work together in community projects that benefit women and girls. As of July 2008, Soroptimist International of the Philippines Region (A Foundation) Inc (SIPR) has 13 districts with 86 clubs and 1,924 members. We belong to a worldwide organization comprising 3,000 clubs with 90,000 members in 126 countries and territories around the world.
The word Soroptimist is coined from two Latin words, soror meaning sister and optima meaning best. We are Soroptimists doing our best to help other women become their best.
Soroptimist gives us a rare opportunity for meaningful involvement in communities around the world through local, national, and international projects, thereby helping shape our global community. Membership in Soroptimist celebrates our unique power and diversity with different cultures, talents, backgrounds and experience. The chance to help others in a supportive environment, friendship and camaraderie whilst benefitting from a wide business network is indeed a gift that membership brings to women.
Membership in a Soroptimist club is by invitation only. We are women of all ages, cultures, and ethnic groups representing a wide array of skills and professions. However, we have a common desire to improve the lives of women and girls, an aspiration to which we lend our valuable expertise, talents, energy, and passion. Our current goals for membership include (a) increasing member satisfaction and retention through interesting and meaningful projects and activities; (b) creating opportunities for members to use modern communication technologies; and (c) providing avenues for leadership development and growth.
SIPR is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, the largest of the four federations of Soroptimist International, located at 1709 Spruce St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
